Volunteer opportunities
Volunteering in health-related settings is extremely important in being recognized as a competitive applicant for health professions programs such as medical, dental school, nursing programs, allied health, etc.  It is hard to convince an admissions committee that you are serious about a career in the health care field if you have not volunteered your time on a regular basis.
