Explore Health Careers with AHEC!
Now more than ever, high school students are learning about high-demand for careers in the health field, but many are often unprepared for the rigors of health professions training or are not developing the personal portfolio needed to gain acceptance to competitive programs such as medical, dental, nursing or pharmacy schools. The West Central Missouri AHEC is happy to bring information about health careers and training programs to educators, students and parents by providing: Health career presentations * We can provide information to your classrooms or after-school clubs on current health careers, reasons to consider a career in the health field, and area training programs. Participation in college or career fairs * AHEC staff can attend college or career fairs to provide information on healthcare careers, area training programs, and our career preparation activities. School-based Health Care Clubs * AHEC staff can help develop a school health career club for students interested in the health industry. Monthly activities may include presentations, guest health professionals, hands-on activities, and health-related service projects. Clubs can be held during or directly following school. AHEC Career Enhancement Scholars (ACES) is an extracurricular program that offers hands-on activities, online learning modules, career exploration, health care volunteering and one-on-one career counseling. Students are selected from application and interview process and a one-year participation commitment is required. To learn more about the Missouri Area Health Education Centers visit our website at www.mahec.org. To schedule an event contact Stephanie Taylor, AHEC Director at Stephanie@hccnetwork.org, or 660-259-2440. * Federal funding allows AHEC to provide school-based activities at no cost to the school. ACES program does require participation fees that are the responsibility of the student. |
