Health Education

The
West Central Missouri AHEC can provide health and wellness education
through creative educational programs
for audiences K-12, as well as parents and community groups. Our
goal is to meet individual learning needs and expand the audience’s
knowledge and skills related to healthcare topics by using resources
such as health literature, interactive material, and question/answer
sessions. Presentations include:

bacteria and how it affects the human body, the twelve body
systems (nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, etc.), hair,
skin, acne, nails, sun protection, nutrition, caffeine, sugar,
exercise, and sleep.

about choosing healthy foods and drinks, the importance of
water, understanding caloric intake and the importance of the
food pyramid, vitamins and minerals, bringing awareness of
fast food nutrition, and understanding the importance of food
portions.

about exercising including the best way to exercise, examples

about the importance of not smoking and being in a smoke free
environment. Topics include ingredients of a cigarette, the

health implications. A visual demonstration is given so that students
literally see the affects of soda in action.
My Doctor's Visit – When you only have 15 minutes with a physician or nurse practitioner, it's important to know what questions to ask and what tests they are requesting. This presentation was designed to help explain what your doctor may be looking for and what information you should come away with.
